Day 29 - Being Dad

That's what I do everyday besides wait...Be a Dad. Why is it that 5 or 6 days work, really when you think about it, takes 6 or 7 weeks. Lets see, there's one day for the SDA appointment, one day to get the regional inspector to go with you to the orphanage for the refferal (not needed 'cause we know Rimma), one day for court, a half-day to change the birth certificate, a half-day to get a passport. a half day to do medicals and a half-day to get the immigration visa. I mean REALLY! Can you tell I'm getting to the end of my rope?

But here is the reason I hang on. Here is the singular, solitary reason I didn't fly home to wait on the Interpol check and why I won't go home during the 10 day wait. My time with Rimma has been great, but she and I will have lots of time together over the next year before Z comes home. Lizzie (Z) had an impossible situation, a registration that we were told would never happen. She runs to me every single day, holds my hand and sits by my side. If an arm is tugging at my side, it is her's. She will have to wait another year due to a silly rule.

She reminds me every single day that she wants to go home. I remind her everyday that we will never forsake her. Yep, I'll gladly return and sit for weeks, doing it all over again.

I think the waiting is always the hardest, no matter how many adoptions you've been through! God doesn't waste a moment though-as you are well aware! May God continue to give you his peace that transcends all understanding!

Felix,

We woke to snow this morning, about 4-5" - just enough to have to get the snow shovels out! The kids have tomorrow off for Presidents' Day - so we are headed to the Museum of Nature and Science to poke around. I don't think Misha has made the connection yet of dinosaur bones being part of dinosaurs. He still thinks the dinos are around somewhere ... his world here is so different from the cloistered life he had there - why couldn't dinos exist? *****

The picture of Lizzie is great! She is really growing up. She needs some time with you to hold her over until it is her turn to come home. It is a shame that you can't bring her this trip. She will have a phone to call home won't she? We looked at the waiting as "childbirth" in a way - incredibly painful at times, but definitely worth it when you look at the results! *****

Has anything changed with Yanukovich taking the reins? We were hoping for Yulia. She still hasn't capitulated, so possibly with a recount there is a chance? *****

A few months ago an elderly gentleman (probably late 70's) stopped as he was walking past our table at Perkins (up on north Main)to talk to John. The kids were being their normal selves - if you catch my drift - and I was afraid he was going to chastise us for the noise. The kids were afraid also and immediately were silent. Instead of complaining, he smiled and told John to enjoy this time when the kids are small and to enjoy each of them clamoring for "Dad's" attention. He said that in his opinion being called "Dad" was the best thing anyone had ever called him. It was a Hallmark moment. He then shuffled off to rejoin his wife who was waiting patiently at the door. May you also relish your "Dad time" over there!

Yes, Lizzie has a phone and with Rimma being home,,,I suspect that we will be calling her more than the usual 2 times a month.
