Best Seller?

Does anyone know a good book publisher? Do you think our story would make a great book? How does one go about getting something like that started? Perhaps all that is needed is to tweak the pages of this blog, somehow. Hey, after all, I have seven potential college degrees and weddings to pay for!

Follow-up clarification: Can anyone tell me how to get someone to either co-author or edit my work. Also, how do folks get those book deals where they pay to have you published and marketed. My point is, I don't have money to write it, publish and print a ton of books to sell only to friends and family. That dad who wrote his son's story "Heaven is for real" comes to mind when I think how I would like this to go down. Thoughts?

Check with Smiles and Trials blogger. I think she's made a book. Otherwise, there are tons of book publishers online.

There are tons of websites out there that will turn your blog into a book. It allows you to choose which posts to include, whether or not you include comments, etc. If you don't want to spend too much money you can get it compiled into a .pdf book for around $10. We are pretty happy with ours. http://martitimes.blogspot.com/2011/02/our-girls-story-in-print.html

Yeah I'm pretty sure you'll have to do the work behind it if you want a best seller type of book ....it's not like your writing Harry Potter, so I think you'll have to do a lot of leg work to get it going instead of expecting someone to just jump at the chance to write your story.... It's interesting and all but yeah just being honest. Though I guess you could call TLC! Somehow Kate got away with writing 3 crappy books and hers were published. I would be much more willing to see your story hit the store shelves!!!! If you want your story done easily but small scale, there are a lot of great companies that turn your blog into a book and don't cost much at all. Check Smiles and Trials for info on that...

Don't forget to use a "cultural" editor to make sure that what you believe to be is actually the way it is. I have read too many books that left sour tastes in my mouth when they made sweeping judgements about the culture and wrote them as truths instead of opinions. Loses creditability for the whole book. Just finished one that listed the car they drove in as a RADA...not LADA. Rada is the parliament. UGH!!! Also wrote the word for goodbye in Cyrillic and said it meant hello! Hello!! Get it straight! Had a hard time finishing that one!!!!!

I can’t help with finding a publisher but I would sure buy the book if it were printed. :)

Unless you find a smallish Christian publisher, who will be enthusiastic about the project, I am not 100% there would be interest in your book. The major publishers are getting saturated with adoption stories. So I'd look at Christian publishing houses. The mom at Cassel Crew is a writer, she might be able to give you some ideas as to where to start. http://www.katrinacassel.com/ is her website, which has a linked in email address.

Good luck with the book project!

I know there are places like this: http://www.blurb.com/
that you can go to to make the book yourself and then sell it. I don't think you have to put much upfront in the way of funds. But I think you could do so much more with your story. I'm not sure how you go about getting published by a real publishing house, you might have to cold call/write editors and see if anyone will pick it up but I hope someone does and I'll be praying for you!

How do I get in touch with you guys? I see from a connecting blog that you stayed in Karen's hospitality house in Kiev. I am curious about it's location to the SDA and embassy. We are going for our 2nd adoption trip on Sept 8th and are looking into this for our accommodations.
